New Year’s Eve Fireworks Over Coogee Beach

The city of Sydney is renowned for putting on of the world’s most spectacular fireworks display drawing in record crowds each year. Not only are we blessed with celebrating New Year’s Eve in summer, but the backdrop of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House make it a stunning display of light and colour that garners worldwide attention.

But not everyone likes to rub shoulders with 1.5 million people. Those who prefer a smaller scale  flock to the Coogee Beach, just 8 kilometres south-east of the CBD to watch a more intimate firework display sparkle over the beach.  Held at 9.30 pm by Randwick City Council and lasting a good twenty minutes, the fireworks are let off from Dolphin Point, at the northern end of the beach.

People took up prime positions on the sand and along the promenade that hugs the beach. The ambience at Coogee was relaxed and welcoming, attracting families, couples and groups of friends cheering on the colourful display that illuminated the beach.
