Photo Essay: A Foodie’s Shopping Expedition

On an overly humid and wet Saturday morning, two foodies ventured over Sydney’s Anzac Bridge for a day of gourmet shopping.

They visited the recently opened Essential Ingredient store at Rozelle. They remembered the heady days when they used to shop regularly at the Camperdown store. They examined the selection of condiments and cooking supplies on display and their passion for experimental cooking was reignited. They didn’t leave the store empty handed.

They walked a few doors up to Herbie’s Spices. Seduced by the aromatic scents from the pretty little shop with Customer Barking, they ventured inside.

They took home a few herbs and spices and promised to return on their next visit to the area.

They drove along Darling Street towards Balmain  and made a stop at Adriano Zumbo. They swooned over his latest selection  and left with a box of goodies and heart-shaped macarons for Valentine’s Day. (More delicious photos here)

One of them was lured by the capsicum, potato and chorizo sausage quiche.  Real men eat Zumbo quiche, apparently…

They stopped at the Sydney Fish Markets and stocked up on fresh seafood for the special occasion and for the coming week.

They strolled up to Simon Johnson’s on Harris Street for a good coffee and a few overdue purchases.

They nearly took home one of the cutest Easter chocolate from Caffarel. These ducks, chickens, roosters and geese makes animal sounds when you pick them up!

Later in the day at a local supermarket, they stifled a laugh when one of them picked up a packet of Girth Control… Chocolate.

Something that this sausage is inordinately proud of.

  1. I’m glad we reignited your passion for some further experimental cooking!
I just love those little ceramic pots that the Herbes de Provence come in too.  So sweet.

Melissa: I’ve got a small collection of those! I was so pleased to see some of the old favourite products like escargots.
We loved the look and layout of the new store and will be dropping in more regularly.

Thanks for your visit and comment :)

  2. What a fun experience.  I visited the Essential Ingredient in Crows Nest in July when I was home visiting and mum and I spent HOURS in there!  Also visited Zumbo and I was a great fan of Simon Johnson when I lived in Syd in 1994…  Thanks for the walk down memory lane!

  3. Dave says:

That Girth Control chocolate is brilliant!  I must try and find some online as I can immediately think of about 10 people who would love it! :D
