Under a fickle Sydney sky, The Spot Food and Film Festival took place on March 7, 2010. St Pauls Street and Perouse Road in Randwick were closed to traffic allowing pedestrians to roam freely around market stalls selling anything from jewellery to cakes, food and fresh produce.

An initiative of the Randwick City Council and now in its third year, the festival attracted a local crowd eager to participate in a fun-filled day of entertainment, cooking demonstrations from Foodconnect and international feasting on various cuisines such as Spanish, Moroccan, Thai and Turkish.

The festival concluded with the induction of Australian actors Claudia Karvan and Steve Bisley into Australian Film Walk of Fame at the Randwick Ritz cinema. They were introduced by Cr John Procopiadis, the Mayor of Randwick and Peter Garrett MP of the Midnight Oil fame.

Highlights of the event involved the Style Police issuing on the spot ‘Style Infringement Notices’, roving entertainers with the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Austin Powers, tarot card readings, a dual land slide for the kids and live entertainment on stage with an ABBA band rocking young and old. The busy roundabout at the intersection of Pauls Street and Perouse Road was turned into an outdoor seating area complete with bean bags and umbrellas.

Foodie delights included Sangria from The Spanish Fly that hit the right spot, mini Dutch pancakes with delicious sticky toppings, Sweetkiss Cake Shop from nearby Clovelly, Moroccan cuisine from Moroccan Feast and Indonesian Lemper Ayam. But it was El Bulli del Punto who stole the show with the fiery red and yellow colours of their stall as they cooked a delicious paella after paella for the hungry masses.

  1. Wow – a foodie blowout indeed!  Love your pictures – good for you for getting so many.  I find at events like that, I sometimes get carried away with the eating and drinking part!

Mardi: I tried to balance both, particularly the drinking… ever tried one-handed DSLR photography? :) We were there for nearly four hours so we left the eating till the end!

What a great assortment of pictures! I have only one complaint… now I want to eat ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING!!! :D
