What do Latin performers, Portuguese butchers and New Zealand wines have to do with a middle-eastern bazaar? We ponder that question when we attend Crave Sydney Food Festival‘s Summer Hill Grand Food Bazaar on Sunday October 17.
According to the Crave Sydney website, this is an opportunity to “taste the exotic flavours of a Middle Eastern bazaar presented by Egyptian, Lebanese and Turkish restaurateurs.” Instead of enjoying “kasheri, kibbeh and kebabs along with arak and other beverages to the sounds of Middle Eastern music,” we are treated to an international range of food where local shops have set up tables and stalls in front of their businesses.
Much like the Australian Cheese Showcase event at the Rocks Market which only featured a handful of stalls, this event is far removed from the middle-eastern food bazaar and ambience it promised. There was the odd kebab or two, shisha coals on sale, pizza, pasta and BBQ seafood but most of all, the opportunity to head out to Sydney’s inner west and enjoy a perfect spring day.

Interesting and delicious mix! I would love a little shot of that tabouleh and a sample of the smoking kofta!
Admittedly, that shot of tabbouleh was very fresh on a hot day!
Oh – what an interesting mix! Much like the Thai restaurants at Haberfield’s Primavera.
Now I don’t feel too bad about missing the Summer Hill one… Hope they can get their theme together next time. 🙂
It’s an odd mix for a food bazaar that was publicised as middle-eastern 🙂 I’m all for local businesses promoting their shops and food but they may as well have called it Summer Hill food fair!
Did you try those rabbit croquettes? interesting to me! I love events like this where you get to have a little taste of everything…
No rabbit tasting… it probably tasted like chicken! 😉
How fun! I do so love food festivals. 🙂 Those murals are great!!
They’re always fun, especially when good food is involved!

Hi, does anyone have the contact for the people running the Shisha/Hookah stall at this event?
Thanks
Marc
Hi Marc – I’ve had a look through the collection of photos I took on the day and found one with a sign. It may help you find the name of the business as most of the stalls were set up in front of the shops. The street name is Lackey St in Summer Hill, NSW. I hope that helps.
