David Jones Christmas Window Display 2010

For many years, David Jones, Australia’s oldest department store, heralds the arrivals of holiday season with its Christmas window display. The flagship store at Elizabeth Street in Sydney’s CBD takes on a different theme every year attracting an eager crowd of all ages.

Noses glued to the windows, palms resting against the glass, the little ones marvel at animated marionettes, elaborate Christmas trees in anticipation of the arrival of the big man in red.

This year, the theme is a gentle reminder of what Christmas is about, with scenes from popular Christmas carols such as The First Noel and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.

David Jones’ Christmas display may not rival the vitrines de Noel at Galeries Lafayette in Paris with glittering lights over multiple facades but it remains a Sydney tradition that puts a smile on many faces.
