Royal Salute 21 Year Old

The Royal Salute range starts at 21 years old, which makes it the only whisky to make an entry level at that age. The master distiller takes different barrels of single malt whisky, all over 21 years old and blends them to create the same style and flavour as the original blend from 1953.

The Royal Salute 21 year old has a deep golden colour, soft fruit aromas with a mild honey sweetness. Presented in a porcelain flagon with a crest of the image of Robert the Bruce and a Gaelic motto, it is the work of craftsmen in Wade and comes in in three colours inspired by the jewels in the Coronation crown: sapphire, ruby and emerald.

Every once in a while, the master distiller comes across an exceptional whisky which is subsequently aged in a separate warehouse. When 100 casks are reached, a selection of these whiskies is used to create a new blend, and as such, this whisky will not always taste the same from every batch. The Royal Salute Hundred Cask Selection is dark in colour and has an outstanding clarity. On the palate, it has a little more nip on the tongue, greater acidity, with honey and raisin flavours.

To release the flavours,  a few drops of water is added. The initial sip produces a nip on the top of the tongue then a little fizz at the bottom of the tongue. Enough water is added to knock back the nip and retain the fizz. The drops of water separate the oils in the whisky and further release the flavour.
