World Class Competition Cocktail and Food Pairing at Sokyo

The World Class Cocktail Competition national finals will be held this Tuesday 12th June 2012 at Sokyo at The Star. And you can be part of it.

The competition will see the top ten bartenders from across the country face the challenge of creating cocktails to match a contemporary 5 course degustation Japanese menu, designed by Sokyo’s head chef Chase Kojima.

As with World Class Australia semi-finals, guests will play a key role in deciding the winner by voting on their favourite cocktails during the course of the evening. The winner of World Class Australia will compete in the global competition in Rio.

Each bartender will create a matching cocktail for one dish using a selection of luxury spirits including Ketel One vodka, Ciroc vodka, Johnnie Walker Platinum Label Blended Scotch Whisky, Talisker 10 year old Single Malt Scotch Whisky and Tanqueray No. Ten gin.

The ten finalists are Philip Gandevia (The Roosevelt NSW), Michael Chiem (Black by Ezard NSW), Tim Philips (Hemmesphere NSW), Ryan Gavin (Rockpool Bar & Grill NSW), Perryn Collier (Laneway QLD), Angus Burton (Canvas QLD), Joel Persson (The Alchemist VIC), Callan Green (Lily Blacks VIC), Dan Gregory (Black Pearl VIC) and Fred Siggins (Kodiak Club VIC).

Expert judges include Myffy Rigby of Time Out, Pat Nourse of Gourmet Traveller, Ben Shipley of Everyday Drinking, Chef Dan Hong from Ms. G’s and The Merivale Group and Chef Brian Geraghty from The Roosevelt.

The World Class cocktail dinner at Sokyo is priced at $180 per person and interested guests can book by calling The Star on 1800 700 700, speaking to an operator and mentioning ‘The World Class Event at Sokyo’.

This is a unique opportunity to become involved in Australia’s cocktail culture and the art of bartending.
