The Sweet Spot Patisserie, Randwick

Comfort food comes in various forms in the middle of winter and when a sugar fix is all you need, it is difficult to ignore that spot that hankers for sweet cakes and a dose of caffeine.

The Sweet Spot Patisserie is located in an area of Randwick known as the Spot, a short stroll from the main shopping area. The café/patisserie offers a bright interior with comfortable seating making it an inviting space and an alternative to sitting outside along the footpath.

You’ll find a array of mini cakes, éclairs, fruit tarts, chocolate mud cakes, Banoffee pies, macarons, Greek pastries and frozen desserts which are very pleasing to the eye and more importantly, they deliver on flavour.

The Caprioska hides layers of lime and lemon mousse, lychee and vanilla sponge sitting on top of a crunchy shortbread biscuit base. The Black Forest has a hazelnut gauffrette Vienna base with a layer of soft chocolate mousse topped with sour cherries glazed in caramel syrup. The Japonaise and the Monsoon also deliver a good sugar hit.

If you’re after something a little different than what franchise patisseries offer in the area, give the Sweet Spot Patisserie a try. Their cakes are reasonably priced around $7 and they make custom cakes for occasions which look as impressive as their patisserie range.

While the cakes hit the sweet spot, service leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. Coffees plonked abruptly on one corner of the table by a shrugging waitress with a devil-may-care attitude make take-away the only viable option.
