Pâtissier and macaron king Adriano Zumbo opened his Waverley store today at the site of the White’s Cakes which has supplied locals for 30 years. Residents of the eastern suburbs can finally get a slice of Zumbo without making the trek to Balmain or going anywhere near the casino.
The new store is located opposite Clovelly Public School along Arden Street which spans from Coogee via Clovelly and into Waverley/Bronte. The fitout of the shop is minimalist and subdued compared to the fluoro colours of Zumbo at the Star store. Instead, it has a cosy French pâtisserie feel with walls painted in colourful tableaux depicting macaron towers and bakery scenes.
The macarons are there on the first day, so are the popular cakes such as the V8 and Birthday Cake and a small selection of Zumbo breads, pies, ice cream and sorbet.
No more melting Zumbo cakes on the drive back from Balmain, or securing macarons in the car like precious jewels. Zumbo Pâtisserie is now a short drive to Waverley or a mere walk for some lucky local residents.
