The Bar at the End of the Wharf, Walsh Bay

“Keep going. You’re only half way!”  The trek to The Bar at the End of the Wharf is worth the effort. You have to admire the humour of the signage as you trot along the wooden path lined with images from theatre shows to find the bar, at the end, of the wharf.

Located at Pier 4 in Walsh Bay, the Sydney Theatre Company‘s bar has a cavernous interior with high ceilings, panoramic windows and a large covered balcony with day beds. Natural light floods the space and the harbour views and free wifi make it a great casual dining option.

The lunch menu is succinct but there are enough choices to tempt.

The Bar at the End of the Wharf
Moroccan chicken salad

The Moroccan chicken salad with quinoa, pumpkin, apricot and prunes ($14) is redolent with the flavours of the citrus, oil and cumin.

Vine ripened tomato salad

The seasonal vine ripened tomato salad with goats cheese and char-grilled sourdough ($12), a simple, light and summery dish as you sip on a glass of Pinot Gris and admire the views from the floor to ceiling windows.

The Bar at the End of the Wharf is a casual destination lunch spot, or a lunch/coffee meeting venue if you are in the area. In the evening, you can enjoy pre and post theatre drinks in spacious surrounds with surrounding water views. The bar has impressive line up of spirits with cocktails such as the Dark ‘n Stormy ($15) and Doggler’s Daiquiri ($18) on offer, and if you’re after a classic cocktail, they can happily oblige. You’ll also find Young Henry’s on tap, Little Creatures bottles and Pipsqueak Cider among the beer and cider menu.

Patience has its rewards.
