The Singapore Shiok Food Truck is serving a taste of the real Singapore with hawker-style dishes. Running from March 6 to March 12, one of the Eat Art Trucks is preparing a selection of authentic dishes with a menu designed by Singaporean Masterchef finalist, Audra Morrice.

You’ll find Katong Laksa, Nonya curry chicken, Sambal stingray and Popiah wish dishes ranging from $3 to $7.

Shiok (pron shee-ok) is a Singlish expression that conveys extreme pleasure and happiness, often associated with food. Diners are encouraged to use the word to describe their food appreciation.

Along with the Singapore Shiok Food Truck, the School of Shiok offered invited guests a tasting of Singaporean delicacies at a pop-up location in Waterloo.

Celebrity chef Ed Halmagyi (Fast Ed) led a cooking class where participants cooked three Singaporean dishes in small groups under his instruction.

Professional tasters made their way around the kitchen, tasting each of the participants’ dishes and pronouncing the winners of each course who received a silver “Singapore Shiok Special” spoon.

The clever marketing initiative by the Singapore Tourism Board urges Australians to ‘Get lost and find the real Singapore’ by going beyond the Singapore they know and discovering the exciting experiences it has to offer.
