Adelphi Whisky with Charles Maclean and Alex Bruce

The Oak Barrel in Sydney hosted an exclusive masterclass of Adelphi Whisky with Scotland’s leading whisky expert Charles Maclean, and Alex Bruce of Adelphi.

Ben Baranow of Baranows Emporium introduced the esteemed guests before a selection of hand-picked rare single malts were tasted. Each whisky was introduced by Alex Bruce who gave a historical overview of Adelphi. Charles Maclean, who recently starred in the movie Angels’ Share as himself, offered his perspective and shared his expert tips on the enjoyment of whisky.

Adelphi are independent bottlers in Scotland and the whiskies are bottled from single casks that have been specifically selected by a panel from the top 10% of casks filled by the single malt distillery. Non-coloured and non-chill filtered, the whiskies are bottled at cask strength and have limited availability.

First on taste was the Private Stock Blend, a 40% ABV blended whisky made using the solera method known as “Granny’s Blend” made in granny’s honour. The single malts on taste were the Adelphi Fascadale Batch 4 (46% ABV), a limited release from the Highlands and distilled at Clynelish, Adelphi Cragganmore 1986 26yo (58.2% ABV), Adelphi Miltonduff 1982 30yo (52.7% ABV), Adelphi Caol Ila 2001 11 yo (60.6% ABV) and finishing with the limited release Adelphi Liddesdale Batch 3 18 yo (46% ABV) distilled at Bunnahabhain.

Before the masterclass concluded, Dave Withers of the Oak Barrel presented Charles Maclean and Alex Bruce with a 20th Anniversary Release bottle of Lark Single Malt Whisky.

The Adelphi Whisky masterclass with Charles Maclean and Alex Bruce was held on Sunday 14th of April 2013 at 4pm at the Oak Barrel in Sydney.
