Palings Kitchen & Bar is the Merivale Group’s latest addition. Located on level 1 of the ivy complex, the open plan space with an indoor outdoor feel takes a food hall concept and turns it into a cool venue.
At lunchtime, Palings Kitchen is heaving with patrons yet the vibe is casual and laid back with diners seated at timber picnic-style benches and long tables. The occasion is the Kimberley Quest Media Lunch with her captain, Josh Bairstow and Head Chef and Masterchef Professionals winner, Rhys Badcock.

A selection of mixed entrees is perfect to share amongst the group. The standout dish is the tartare of king salmon that combines the freshness of the fish with a gentle heat of the chilli and the ginger. From the main courses, the grilled fish of the day is snapper, perfectly cooked with a moist flesh and a crisp skin on a celeriac and potato purée with sauce vierge. The saltwater potatoes are not to be missed, dry, shrivelled and slightly crisp on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside.

Tartare of king salmon, cucumber, chilli, ginger and toast
Snow peas, runner beans and basil with mozzarella grilled on lemon leaves
Roasted cauliflower, burgul, pomegranate, fennel and lime
Broccolini, beetroot and rainbow chard, pine nuts and sesame dressing
Grilled fish of the day, celeriac and potato puree, sauce vierge
Saltwater potatoes and spicy pebre sauce
Paling’s Kitchen & Bar takes the concept of a food court and elevates it to a sophisticated level while retaining a casual atmosphere. Fresh flavours, efficient and friendly table service in an open space with streaming light make it a popular CBD lunch spot suitable for casual group dining.
