Enter Miss Marley’s in Manly and you’re transported to another time and place, to an era of 1950’s glamour.
Miss Marley’s, Manly
The intimate bar and eatery is striking with its luxe interior, a silver paper wall like a swanky salon, a mini token fireplace, comfortable lounges to sink into and tables set against banquettes on the opposite wall.
Kissing Corner
A “kissing corner” at the rear of the bar with red and black upholstery and vintage mirror completes the setting.
Miss Marley’s, Manly
Miss Marley’s launched three years ago and has since developed a reputation for being one of the best tequila bars in Sydney.
Section of the Bar
And it is the shimmer of the bottles on the back bar that beckons. Miss Marley’s has around 100 tequila expressions as well as a good selection of rum and whisky and a growing list of Mezcal such as Pierde Almas and Ilegal Mezcal.
You can order a Tequila Flight ($18), with three 20 ml serves choose from the extensive list of cocktails starting with Marley’s House Cocktails at $10 each (Paloma, Tommy’s Margarita) and includes their popular passionfruit-based, La Bomba ($17), with tequila blanco, orange juice and fresh lime.
L-R: Rhubarb Rider, Jalisco Mule
The Rhubarb Rider ($18) is delicious and fruity, with rhubarb infused tequila, rhubarb vanilla syrup and fresh lemon with an Aperol crown. The Jalisco Mule ($17) is a delicious combination of Don Fulano Blanco infused with spices, apple and lime and topped with ginger beer.
Miss Marley’s food menu is an eclectic range of South American share plates created by Brazilian born Head Chef, Carlos Almeida.
Ceviche
Start with the Ceviche ($14) made with ginger and citrus cured market fresh kingfish, served with crisp tortilla and pisquito sour in a shot glass. The dish balances the freshness of the fish with the zestiness of lime, red grape and avocado, a recipe from the chef’s mother’s repertoire.
L-R: Grilled chorizo, Croquettas
The spiced beef and herb Croquettas ($10) are cripsy, light and moreish but you can’t beat a good chorizo. The Grilled Chorizo and Caramelised Guava Onions ($8) rates among the best. It’s hot, spicy and charred with the caramelised guava onions.
Salt cod fritters
From the sea, comes the tasty Salt Cod Fritters with confit garlic ($10) served with grilled lime aioli.
Slow roasted pork belly bites
The Slow Roasted Pork Belly Bites ($16) are melt-in-the-mouth pieces of pork with a crispy and seasoned crackling topped with an apple, passion fruit and coriander salsa.
Cuban style mojo criollo chicken
The standout dish is the Cuban style Mojo Criollo Chicken ($18), a more substantial sized dish with tender, succulent and seasoned charred chicken served with the can’t-stop-eating salted taro crisps.
Vistalba Corte C Malbec
Wine list carries the theme with some local and South American wines such as the Tomero Torrentes from Argentina ($10 a glass) or the excellent Vistalba Corte C Malbec from Medoza Argentina ($12).
Key lime pie
For dessert, the Key Lime Pie with burnt pineapple and vanilla reduction ($10) has a lovely tartness with a caramelised pineapple finish.
Sangrita
For something warming on cold nights, finish with a Belgrave Blazer ($20) or a house-made Sangrita or Verdita with Partido Blanco Tequila.

Looks so good! I don’t usually make the trek to Manly (I’m just being lazy though it’s not that much of a trek from the Eastern Suburbs!) but I would go to check out Miss Marley’s 🙂
