Jones the Grocer: Discover Truffles Menu, Westfield Sydney

Jones the Grocer is celebrating all things truffle in August with a truffle-themed menu, in-store tastings and truffle products.

The gourmet food emporium which has relocated from Woollahra to the food court level at Westfield Sydney occupies the space that was Quarter 21 and the adjoining Bécasse restaurant.

Inside the cavernous space, the sleek décor with black metallic accents offers a respite from the hubbub of the food court outside. An open and shiny kitchen occupies a sizeable area and gives the space a casual vibe. Further inside, the ambience is more subdued with a dimly-lit interior and a stone wall with large windows offering a glimpse of people working out at the gym.

The “Discover Truffles” menu is a set menu with three courses which can be ordered individually.

Scallops with Black Truffle

An entrée of lardo-wrapped scallops with black truffle and havarti with cauliflower purée and a maple emulsion ($24) is a delicately-flavoured dish. The scallops are perfectly cooked, retaining their flavour and soft texture. The creamy purée is a match made in heaven and while the maple emulsion cuts through the creaminess, it competes and overpowers the balance of flavours.

Chicken Kiev with Truffle Butter

A 1970s classic, the Chicken Kiev with truffle butter and truffled polenta chips with roast garlic aioli ($36) is an absolute delight.

Molten Truffle Butter

The crisp fried chicken Maryland is well seasoned and crumbed and hides a river of molten butter and truffles. Hearty and filling, the chicken is succulent throughout, and the roast garlic aioli works very well with the truffled polenta chips.

Truffle panna cotta

Order the truffle panna cotta with white chocolate and black pepper ($12) and you’re in for a flavour hit. Creamy yet light in texture, the decadent finish is served with a wedge of white chocolate and an aerated creme anglaise topped with a slice of truffle.

The special ‘Discover Truffles’ set menu runs throughout August, and if you’re inclined to try your hand at cooking with truffles, the range of Tartuflanghe truffle products from Alba in the Piemonte region in Italy is available in store.
