A mere stumble from Circular Quay and neighbouring hotels such as Shangri-la Sydney, Opera Bar is located on the lower concourse level of the Sydney Opera House. The popular indoor/outdoor bar offers a spectacular and uninterrupted panorama from the Opera House, to the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the city skyline.

Breakfast at Opera Bar is a recent addition to their lunch and dinner service. The succinct menu offers a good choice from light dishes to the more hearty.

The coffee ($4.50) is by Di Gabriel Boutique Coffee Roasters. The the Vivace Blend is strong, full-bodied with almond notes. Tea and juices are available as well as C 100% organic coconut water.

Champagne Breakfast

For a touch of decadence to befit the view, sip on Gosset Brut Excellence champagne ($20 by the glass). A full wine list including sparkling wines are available at the bar.

The breakfast menu includes a delicious Quesadilla ($16) with a spicy chorizo, egg and melted manchego,

Baked Eggs 

and the irresistible Baked Eggs ($18) with spicy tomatoes, beans, wilted spinach and toasted sourdough on the side. Hearty, filling and flavoursome, this is go to dish for breakfast.

Other options include Croque Monsieur ($12) with ham, Dijon mustard and gruyere cheese on thick toast and a green salad, Smoked Salmon Panini ($10) with egg, capers and lime mayonnaise, and the ever popular Poached or Fried Eggs ($17) on sourdough, with bacon and tomato. The eggs are biodynamic and all the dishes are generous in size and well-presented.

Lighter choices include granola, yoghurt and berries ($12), sourdough toast, butter and preserves ($7) and a selection of Danish pastries ($5).

Gosset Champagne by the Harbour

You may expect a leisurely breakfast with a spectacular harbour vista to come at a premium cost but the dishes are well priced and don’t compromise on flavour. The vibe is relaxed and casual with a mix of Sydney-siders and tourists. You order and pay at the bar and the food is delivered to your table. You can sit inside and away from the elements, outside under the shades by the glistening water or in full sun closer to the waterfront.

Breakfast at Opera Bar runs on Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 11.30 am. No bookings are taken and walk-ins are welcome. As a popular visitor destination, it can get busy at times, particularly with the warmer seasons around the corner.

No matter how many times you have seen it, the harbour view will leave you spellbound. With a glass in hand and a satisfying breakfast, there is no better start to the weekend.
