The 750-seater venue is situated across the road from the George Street cinemas and spans over three levels. Step past the humble entrance with a gaming room on street level and you’ll find yourself in an expansive space with high ceilings, shimmering disco balls, elaborate chandeliers, leopard skin tall bar stools and large television screens.

The venue offers five bars, including one that is accessed through a cage, a 350 seat bistro, five function spaces, a 62 seat cinema and custom booth seating. A display at the rear pays homage to the Planet Hollywood era with characters from popular films such as a life-sized statue of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Executive Chef Danny Russo, recently responsible for The Oaks‘ new menu in Neutral Bay and the Hats off Menu with Aki’s in Woolloomooloo heads the kitchen with an approachable Italian-influenced menu. Snack on a generous Antipasto Platter ($17) while sipping on Birra Moretti. You’ll find all-time favourites such as Tomato, Mozzarella & Basil Arancini Balls, Buffalo Mozzarella with Heirloom Tomatoes and Deep Fried Zucchini Flowers. Linguini with Prawns, Garlic, Chilli, Rocket & Lemon bursts with flavour and with the earthy and creamy Risotto with Market Mushrooms, Black Truffle Crema & Parmesan, served wet, you’d be tempted to eat it  with a spoon.

There’s a tempting range of pizzas, burgers and steaks that include the Star Bar Signature Russolini Burger made with herb and Parmesan crumbed Angus beef pattie with napoli sauce and melted mozzarella in a sweet bun – a popular choice that goes down well at any time. Pizza Verdura is good vegetarian option includes generous toppings of eggplant, roast peppers, zucchini, artichokes pesto and Parmesan shavings. For dessert, don’t miss The Star Tiramisu. Russo’s cream-free version is rich in flavour with coffee and mascarpone cheese without being overly sweet.

The functions menu includes a whole suckling pig brought to the table accompanied by roast potatoes, fennel and apple sauce set to add a wow factor to your event.

A good selection of wines, both local and Italian complements the dining experience and the bar also offers well-priced popular cocktails such as Bellini, Cosmopolitan, Mai Tai and Mojito.

Star Bar is a world away from the bustle of George Street and offers a welcome change from tapas-style dining with an approachable menu combining pub food classics with tasty modern Italian rustic fare.
