N2 Extreme Gelato, Haymarket, Sydney

Lab coats, chemistry apparatus and clouds of liquid nitrogen make up the theatrics. No, we’re not talking about the latest themed bar or hot new restaurant. This is N2 Extreme Gelato in Chinatown, a magnet for the sweet-toothed and the gelato-licking curious.

The gelato is made to order from pre-prepared ingredients which undergo the liquid nitrogen treatment. While you may have to wait in line for your turn, you’ll be entertained by the theatre of “smoke” as liquid turns to ice.

“Chemistry Lab”

You’ll find exotic flavours such as Potato and Gravy, Hot Cross Meringue even a carrot sorbet. The menu is known to change. This is a place to indulge and temporarily forget any diet.

Crème Brûlée

Almost as good as the real thing, the Crème Brûlée ($8) is irresistible with a rich flavour of vanilla bean in custard complete with a perfect caramel crack.

N2 Extreme Gelato
Ferrero Reveal

The Ferrero Reveal ($8) hides Nutella gelato with crushed hazelnuts and a rice bubble chocolate top. A crispy wafer and a syringe filled with warm chocolate ganache make it a decadent choice.

Whatever your flavour, you’ll be hard pressed not to make a stop at N2 Extreme Gelato next time you’re at Sydney’s Haymarket.
