Aussie Wine Month 2014

Aussie Wine Month kicked off with a bang at an official launch party held in the Ivy Ballroom in Sydney.

Entitled “Aussie Wine Unearthed” the event was attended by over 500 wine enthusiasts with over 100 wines from 16 Australian wine regions on taste.

The launch was held in conjunction with Dan Murphy’s whose interactive space offered food and wine matching, comparative vintage tastings and an Aroma bar by the Australian Wine Research Institute.

The night saw the launch of a new wine, Yarnbomb 2012 McLaren Vale Shiraz by Corrina Wright, a wine typical of the region with soft tannins, ripe fruit and spice.

The Cheese and charcuterie tables proved very popular with guests as they sipped their way around the Australian wine regions.

If you missed the launch event, you can take part in any of the 150 Aussie Wine Month events around the country this May. Highlights include:

Upper Hunter Wine & Food Affair, Hunter Valley NSW
Held each year on the 1st Saturday in May, Ogilvie Street transforms into a Wine and Food gourmet feast extravaganza. An incredible collection of street food, gourmet take home produce and the unique flavours of world renowned Upper Hunter wines. Date: 3rd May, 11-4pm

Adelaide Hills Regional Heroes Wine Dinner, Adelaide Hills – South Australia
Experience some of the finest wines the Adelaide Hills has to offer over a five course menu from local and seasonal produce, designed by Maximilian’s Head Chef, Shane Wilson. The wines on offer are regional heroes and trophy winning drops from the 2013 Adelaide Hills Wine Show. Cost $120. Date: 10th May, 6:30pm

Leeuwin Estate Art Series Lunch, Margaret River – West Australia
Celebrate ‘The Art of Fine Wine’ at Leeuwin Estate this May. After a tour of the winery with a winemaker, including the famous Leeuwin Art Gallery, guests will be guided through a special wine flight featuring the Estate’s acclaimed Art Series wines. Cost $155 Date: Saturday, 31 May, 11-4pm

Red Wine Weekend/Savour Tasmania – Tasmania
Now in its sixth year, the Savour Tasmania festival runs from 21-25 May and combines delicious Tasmanian wines with local produce and global culinary expertise. Spanning five days, there are a number of events to celebrate Tasmania’s world-class produce and beverages.

At one of the pinnacle events, the Red Wine Weekend, vignerons and wine makers from across the whole of Tasmania come together to showcase a range of reds from a variety of vintages. This is an opportunity to meet, greet and chat with the heart of Tasmania’s wine makers, over a glass of wine. Cost: $16.50 to $65 (Red Wine Weekend) Dates: 21st-25th May

Sunset Vineyard Walk, Granite Belt – Queensland
Take a leisurely stroll through the picturesque, hand tended vineyard of Tim and Michelle Coelli. Discuss all things wine and vineyards as you admire the stunning surrounds of autumn colours set amongst stunning granite boulders and twisted gum trees.

You’ll then return to their stylish cellar door to enjoy a guided tasting on the wrap around veranda, were you’ll try single vineyard, dry grown Twisted Gum Wines matched with artisan cheeses. Cost $25 Date: 10th May, 4pm – sunset.
