When your idea of accommodation in Paris is a stay in an elegant and modern boutique hotel in a neighbourhood once renown for artists, look no further than Hôtel de Nell.
Hôtel de Nell, Paris
Part of Charm and More Hotels and Resorts, Hôtel de Nell is located along rue du Conservatoire, a narrow one way street near the corner of rue Sainte-Cecile in the 9eme arrondissement, the smallest Parisian district between Montmartre and Jardins du Palais Royal. The hotel is a recent addition to the district, having opened in March 2012.
The 33 room hotel is the work of interior designer Jean-Michel Wilmotte who has created luxury and an understated elegance with clean lines, warm materials, custom furniture and specialist lighting.
Room 12 is located on the first floor and accessed by a lift. Overlooking the neo-Gothic, 19th-century Sainte-Cécile church, the room is spacious and bathed in natural light. Sandy tones with dark blue accents give a sense of space and serenity.
The bed offers the right level of comfort, neither too soft nor too rigid. Pillows a la carte complement the hypo allergenic and dust mite resistant mattress and bedsteads.
Desk and Television
A 32 inch flat screen TV running local and international television stations, a Nespresso coffee machine near mini bar, an iPod dock, a personal safe and free wifi are some of the in-room facilities.
The bathroom brings nature inside with stone coloured surfaces, a white marble double basin and the luxury of underfloor heating.
Side View of Bathroom
Bathrobes, slippers and paraben-free complimentary toiletries are on offer along with a heated towel rack.
Japanese Marble Bath
A Japanese bath cut from a solid block of marble with a tray, footstool and seat made with light Oregon myrtlewood is the spot to relax and unwind. Only 17 out of the 33 rooms have a Japanese bath.
Soak in one of three bath rituals – energising, cleansing or stress-relieving and you can enjoy a Japanese tea to order.
Italian Rainfall Shower & Separate Toilet
The Italian rainfall shower is simply luxurious, tucked away behind the vanity. A separate toilet at the other end of the room is night-lit for easy access.
Lobby with Fireplace
Downstairs, an intimate lobby includes a fireplace,
and a spot to meet before venturing out.
Booths and lounges under a glass roof offer a more private space to sit or enjoy a drink.
The intimate bar is a place to enjoy an aperitif, a cocktail or an after dinner digestive . The bar keeps a modest selection of spirits with a focus on French spirits such as Lillet, Suze, Chartreuse and Citadelle gin.
La Régalade Conservatoire
Breakfast is served in the hotel’s restaurant, La Régalade Conservatoire with a choice of Le Rapide, (hot beverage, fruit juice and two pastries which can be eaten in or take away, Le Buffet and Le Complet, the latter including eggs cooked to order, jambon de Paris, a selection of cheeses from fromager Martine Dubois and a rice pudding.
Fresh pastries are by Philippe Gosselin, a range of organic cereals, curd cheese from Normandie, vegan, gluten and dairy free jams ensure a healthy start to the day.

Coffee is by Nespresso and includes espresso, macchiato, cafee latte and cappuccino.
La Regalade Conservatoire with Chef Bruno Doucet at the helm offers lunch and dinner with a set menu and a cuisine focussed on bistronomy (review here). The dishes make use of seasonal ingredients in simple and delicious recipes that have Parisians flock regularly to its doors.
Hotel de Nell is located on rue du Conservatoire, a quiet narrow one way street in the 9eme arrondissement, known locally as SoPi (South Pigalle).
The closest metro stations are Bonne Nouvelle and Grands Boulevards, Lines 8 and 9 which lead to Galeries Lafayette department store and Opera Garnier.
If arriving by train, the hotel is 1.7 km or 10 minutes from Gare du Nord (Eurostar) and Gare de l’Est, 5.5 km or 15 minutes from Gare de Lyon.
