Set in a series of converted townhouses, Montague on the Gardens boutique hotel is located in London’s Bloomsbury on a quiet street around the corner from the British Museum.
Step through the entrance and into the lobby and you’ll find the interior to be traditionally decorated in a manner reminiscent of a stately home.
The rooms vary in décor and configuration. Room 119 is spacious and comfortable with striped fabric walls lending a feel of grandeur to the experience. A large window faces the garden. The bed and linen are luxurious guaranteeing a restful night’s sleep.
A writing desk is equipped with amenities and free, fast and reliable wifi is available. A welcome note and gift of Bea’s Home Made Biscuits from the management add a nice touch, as is the follow-up phone call after checking in to ensure all is well.
A few steps lead into a very narrow bathroom with a heated floor and a shower above the bath. The bathroom is night-lit with a blue light for safety as not to fall down the stairs.
The sink is tiny and barely accommodates one person’s toiletries let alone two people in the room. A soft bath robe and slippers are provided.
Breakfast is served at Blue Door Bistro with a choice of continental and full English breakfast.

The high tea ceremony begins with a historical explanation of high tea, also included in the menu and a selection of teas from English Breakfast to Earl Grey and Lapsang Souchong.
The Traditional Afternoon Tea includes a selection of finger sandwiches in the lower tier with egg mayonnaise and mustard cress, smoked Scottish salmon, free range corn fed chicken with celery and almonds, cucumber, cream cheese and chives. The middle tier offers traditional plain scones and fruit scones served with strawberry preserve and clotted cream. The top cream is a little sweet indulgence with macarons, cup cakes, eclairs and berry tart.
