Book Review: Don’t Give Me Eggs That Bounce

Alzheimer’s. Dementia. If you’re still reading, chances are you know of someone or have a family member who suffers from the debilitating disease. It’s gut wrenching and tragic to watch a parent or a loved one deteriorate with the condition.

Don’t Give Me Eggs That Bounce

Don’t Give Me Eggs That Bounce

Don’t Give Me Eggs That Bounce is a new cookbook created specifically for people with Alzheimer’s and their carers. The foreword is written by Maggie Beer with recipes by Australia’s leading aged care chef, Peter Morgan-Jones. You’ll find nutrition advice for older people, particularity if they have swallowing difficulties along with ideas for preparing tasty and nutritious meals, including texture-modified food and drinks. All of the recipes have been carefully analysed and tested and are clinically appropriate.

The book begins with a section offering practical knowledge before it moves onto recipes divided into the three main meals, mid meals and beverages. You’ll find other sections specifically for soft recipes and smooth and pureed food.

Different sets of instructions are sometimes given depending on the individual. For example, the Classic Scrambled Eggs has instructions for those on a regular or soft diet, and another for people on minced and moist or smooth pureed diet.

The cookbook may not be for you. But if you know someone who has Alzheimer’s or is a carer for a sufferer, they will find the cookbook of good use.

Don’t Give Me Eggs That Bounce is published by Hammondare Media and is available from 1 July 2014 at RRP $39.95.
