The essential culinary elements of Mediterranean cooking such as fresh and ground chillies, salt, turmeric, garlic, mint leaves, curry powder, nutmeg and star anise were beautifully showcased and tasted. Added to the dramatic décor were Arabian lamps, incense, drapes and cushions.

Bakers Delight introduced two new limited edition Mediterranean Delight Turkish Breads available across the country for four weeks only, Chilli and Garlic and Sea Salt Flakes.

Canapés served with Mediterranean Delights included Pissaladière, Paté de foie de canard with fig paste, braised peppers and white anchovies, prosciutto di parma and reggiano, baby peas with goats cheese and mint along with an antipasti plate and a selection of dips and vegetables. Olive oils and a blood plum finishing vinegar from River Flats Estate and La Barre Estate complemented the food.

De Bortoli Wines provided a selection of four Mediterranean-style wines for tasting:

NV Rococo Yarra Valley Premium Cuvee – pale colour with green tinges, subtle biscuit–like aromas with citrus and white pear characters. Soft creamy textured palate with length and drinkability.

2013 BellaRiva Pinot Grigio – light straw in colour with a green edge, gently aromatic, pear like fruit, some nuttiness, bright with good texture and complexity.

2013 BellaRiva Merlot – dark red with purple, black fruits, rich flavours, juicy, soft, and textural.

2011 BellaRiva Sangiovese Merlot – red with good garnet edge, complex, slightly rustic earthly aromas, autumnal and brooding. Savoury palate with good texture and lengths.

Taste The Mediterranean was a delightful and flavoursome journey, bringing back good memories of travel around the region.

The event was held on Thursday 31st of July at Café Nice, 2 Phillip St. Circular Quay. Sydney.
