After opening its doors early in June, Mr Tipply’s officially launched last night. Located at the corner of King Street and Kent Street in the CBD, the multi-level venue occupies the former location of the City Hotel.

The space has been fully renovated by new owners the Waugh Group and features a main bar, some booth seating and an African-inspired décor with wall art and paraphernalia. Continue through to the rear of the venue and you’ll find an outdoor area with its own bar and seating.
Up the stairs to level one, The Attic at Mr Tipply’s features a more intimate bar with a focus on gin cocktails such as the Aviation cocktail which was served on tap. The 180 person capacity bar can be reached from the main bar as well as having its own separate entrance.
Continuing below street level, a small sports bar with a gaming room is tucked away with a separate entry from King St.
Guests at the launch enjoyed the Miss Laney Jane, a sweet berry cocktail and the Gold Medal passion fruit juice punch. The Tipple, a cocktail designed to be shared is served in a top hat. The drink is tropical and fruity with a mix of pineapple-infused vodka, Captain Morgan’s gold rum, coconut water, freshly juiced oranges, citrus, pineapple juice and a house made gingerbread syrup for a hint of spice.
Mr Tipply’s offers an Asian-inspired menu by executive chef Elaine Lee which is designed to be shared. Dishes include Sang Choy Bao with chicken, mushrooms and vegetables, crispy salmon on betel leaves, Mongolian Lamb cutlets and a 500g T-bone steak with black bean butter sauce.
Whether it’s dining with friends, after work drinks or dancing till the early hours, Mr Tipply’s “house of consumption and conviviality” is set to bring good times to the city.
