Handpicked Wines held a wine tasting of their new Collection and Vineyard releases at the Olsen Irwin Gallery in Paddington. But this was no ordinary tasting.

The event was a curated art experience, interactive and sensory with guests encouraged to taste as well as experience the wines using their senses of smell, touch, sight and sound.

Handpicked Wines
2013 Tasmania Pinot Noir

The 2013 Collection Tasmania Pinot Noir invited guests to match the wine with the aroma of strawberries, raspberries and cherries, the three fruit characters that are often used to describe red wine.

Each wine was served from ceramic decanters, specifically created for the event by Andrei Davidoff ceramics where each piece represented a unique wine. The evening also offered the opportunity for guests to mingle with chief winemaker Gary Baldwin and the vineyard managers.

2013 Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir

Highlights of the tasting included the superb 2013 Collection Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir, rich and full bodied with pronounced cherry and spice. The wine recently won the regional award for Best Mornington Peninsula wine as well as the trophy for the ‘Vic1’ – the overall winner of the Vic100 awards. The wine label is depicted by a feather, paying homage to the migratory birds of the region.

2013 Yarra Valley Chardonnay

Another standout was the 2013 Collection Yarra Valley Chardonnay, a crisp wine with spicy citrus characters denoted by a terrarium displaying three layers of soil in which the grape is grown.

Handpicked Wines’ Art of Curation event was held on Monday 22 September 2014 at the Olsen Irwin Gallery in Paddington.
