Sushi Kun, Clovelly

Once upon a time in Clovelly, the choice of takeaway food was Thai, Thai and Thai, burgers, fish & chips. Sushi Kun, a Japanese takeaway eatery has opened along Clovelly Rd between Pizzavelly Italian Kitchen and Pinto Thong Thai.

The takeaway joint serves a range of sushi rolls, sashimi, udon noodle soups and Japanese meals. You’ll find 85 items on the menu including the usual suspects.

The small mixed sashimi starts at $9.50 and nigiri sushi is available by 2 pieces with platters ranging from $38 to $55. From the starters, the Chicken Karaage $9 was a little under seasoned and arrived not too crisp in its plastic container. Gyoza ($8 for 6 pieces), the house-made Japanese dumplings are filled with a mixture of pork and vegetables and the Agedashi Tofu ($8.50 6 pieces) with deep fried silken tofu in a hot sweet soy soup was the best pick.

Meals such as Pork Katsu Meal $12 come with rice and a salad while large sushi rolls of come with a choice of white or wild rice. Of the U-don noodle soups ($12), the Beef U-don had the most flavour and wins hands down over the seafood and chicken katsu u-don.
