Arisun Express, Sydney

If you enjoy Korean food, you may be familiar with Arisun in Sydney’s Haymarket. Arisun Express is the younger sibling which opened in World Square a month ago, just prior to Christmas.

Despite its name, Arisun Express is not just a takeaway outlet but a restaurant with outdoor and upstairs seating 60 persons. The latest addition to the Arisun outlets brings a smaller scale menu with a concept that channels the drinking lifestyle in Seoul.

The menu includes Arisun favourites along with new additions. You’ll still find Sun’s Korean Fried Chicken with various sauces but here, the grilled Spicy Pork Belly is given the melted cheese treatment.

Pork Dumplings

The Pork Dumplings are difficult to resist. Filled with pork, chives, ginger and cabbage, these crispy fingers are cooked on a grill to give them texture and come with a garlic soy sauce.

Sweet and Spicy Fried Chicken

A popular street food in Korea, the Sweet and Spicy Fried Chicken has a good measure of heat with a subtle cinnamon taste. Sticky, sweet and spicy, these tasty bites are crowd-pleasers and go down well with an icy cold Korean Frozen Beer.

Frozen Beer & Korean Style Meatballs

The frozen beer stays cold for up to half an hour. The “head” is served frozen and tastes like a beer slushie from which you sip the cold ale.

Korean Style Meatballs with a green salad are house-made using a mixture of beef, pork and seafood for moisture drizzled with a honey mustard dressing that is good enough to eat on its own.

Stir Fried Seafood Noodles

The Stir Fried Seafood Noodles with prawns, calamari, baby octopus and strips of tofu drizzled with a honey sauce are an odd mix of flavour. The sweetness from the honey overpowers the savoury elements in the seafood which makes this dish an acquired taste.

Boneless Cripsy Chicken

The Boneless Cripsy Chicken is another winner. Double fried with paprika in the batter which adds gentle spice, these chicken bites are dipped in honey mustard sauce for a flavour explosion.

When you’ve had your fill, dDon’t leave Arisun Express without stopping at the adjacent Azotto for a delectable fix of nitro-chilled ice cream.
