Best New Sydney Restaurants & Bars – April 2015

As blue skies return, here are some of the latest restaurants and bars that have opened in Sydney for you to venture out and enjoy.

Char & Co

Char & Co presents dishes inspired by South America. Menu highlights include Moqueca, a Brazilian seafood curry with barramundi and tiger prawns or Jalapenos Rellenos which are fried and battered with aioli. Fire roasted meats, poultry, sausages and seafood will keep Churrasco lovers happy. Keep room for dessert of Doce de Mel E Amendion. Read our review of Char & Co.

Barrel Bar & Dining

An  extensive wine list at Barrel Bar & Dining with a focus on boutique wineries makes this welcoming bar a great place to relax with friends. A menu by chefs Zac Stanning and Luke Davenport with a French and Italian feel offers plates to share and more substantial serves. The Public at Cammeray

Baraka

Blogger and Chef Fouad Kassab who impressed with his pop up Chic Pea now has opened Baraka Restaurant, with a menu inspired by the family and food of his childhood in Lebanon. A set menu is available or select from dishes such as Tamarind & chili king prawns or Slow-cooked lamb shoulder pilaf with tahini. A must-have is the Middle Eastern Breakfast served on Sunday. Osaka Bar

Chef Kazu missed the street food from his home town of Osaka so much that he has opened Osaka Bar to serve some of his favourites such as takoyaki (fried octopus balls), okonomyaki (Japanese pancake) plus much more. Read our review of Osaka Bar.

Tartine

Tartine lets you begin the day and work your way though the selection of pastries, sweet jaffles, savoury jaffles and of course tartines i.e. fancy French opened face sandwiches with nothing on the menu over $10.

The Pizza Box

With a wood fired pizza oven from Naples,  The Pizza Box is set in Salt Meats Cheese. A range of cured meats and beef meatballs are a couple of the starters before moving onto pizzas both traditional Marghariti, Anchovy to more contemporary Truffle, Lobster to name a few.

Surly’s

Surly’s is the latest from Brody Petersen of Riley St Garage, dishing up a range of Southern American food with 4 types of fries, hot wings, American BBQ plates with the meats smoked in house plus more. All served up with plenty of beers, both American and local, bourbon and rock and roll.

Harry Phat’s

A holiday enjoying the ocean in front of you and trying some street food from Vietnam, Thailand, maybe Indonesia or Japan. Well, head to Harry Phat’s in Manly where chef’s will prepare their native cuisines for you to snack or maybe have a three course dinner in a setting with original and street art and that ocean view.

Besser Italian

The team from A Tavola have opened Besser, a casual restaurant and bar that features the wonderful Australian/Italian building material of the ’70s, thebesser block, as a 10 metre bar. The menu has the Italian favourites, fresh pasta, wine on tap and the 6pm risotto which changes daily to be ordered at that time.

Moorish Blue

The spices of North Africa come to the fore at Moorish Blue in dishes such as the calamari, pearl couscous, okra with Tunisian paste or maybe try the wok fired prawns with harissa all served in an atmospheric setting.
