While many look to enclosed spaces and comfort food in colder months, North Bondi Fish has provided  reason to come to the seaside and enjoy their new winter menu launching this week.

Situated on the ground level of North Bondi RSL, restaurateurs Matt Moran and Peter Sullivan along with Head Chef Toby Archibald are bringing dishes with a focus the best and freshest seafood from around the country.

With glass frontage that allows the enjoyment of gentle sea breezes, diners can look across Bondi Beach and the ocean.

Yellow Fin Tuna Sashimi, Betel Leaf, Pomello, Chilli

The leaf is the cutlery for the Yellow Fin Tuna Sashimi, Betel Leaf, Pomello, Chilli inviting you to get interactive with the food. The tuna is fresh and firm while the betel leaf gives a hint of pepper and the pomello imparts a mild sweetness.

Black Fig, Fennel, Goats Curd, Asparagus

This vibrant fresh salad of Black Fig, Fennel, Goats Curd, Asparagus ($22) has a wonderful balance between the sweetness of the figs and the tartness of the goats curd.

The lightly battered Salt and Pepper Calamari, Red Vinegar, Ginger ($22) is tender and well-seasoned without the salt and pepper being overpowering.

The Kinkawooka Mussels, Minestrone, Pesto give a rustic winter flavour. The mussel meat is soft and tastes of the sea.

From the north coast of NSW, the soft succulent sweet flesh of the Charcoal Roasted Yamba Prawns, Ginger, Shallot ($36) takes centre stage of this dish and the ginger and shallot are used to embellish their natural flavour.

Grilled Whole Market Fish, Broccolini, Abalone Mushroom

The Grilled Whole Market Fish ($68) of the day is snapper with broccolini and abalone mushroom. The moist flesh falls off the bone with the outer flesh having a moderate char flavour – a simple yet delicious dish to share.

Chips with Malt Vinegar, Cabbage Slaw with Parmesan

The side of Chips with Malt Vinegar ($9) are crisp and addictive while the Cabbage Slaw with Parmesan ($10) does not distract from the flavours of the seafood and is almost a palate cleanser as you move from dish to dish.

Coconut and Lime Pannacotta, Grilled Pineapple

For dessert, the Coconut and Lime Pannacotta, Grilled Pineapple ($15) is a balance of coconut foam, passionfruit sorbet and the coconut and lime pannacotta covered in toasted coconut.

Apple Tarte Fine, Vanilla Anglaise

The Apple Tarte Fine, Vanilla Anglaise ($15) begs for a second helping with its crisp almond pastry topped with mandolined apples that have been lightly torched surrounded by a light and flavoursome vanilla anglaise.

North Bondi Fish is not attempting to reinvent the wheel but is serving quality, fresh seafood that is prepared well and big on flavour. The beachside setting makes it an ideal spot, even in winter, to enjoy a leisurely lunch overlooking the sparkling beach or dine with friends while appreciating one of Sydney’s most coveted locations.
