It was a long way away from the Isle of Skye with Sydney putting on a glorious winter’s day with light winds and mild temperatures. After the obligatory safety procedures by skipper Matt Pearce, the yacht set sail on Sydney Harbour.

Surrounded by the iconic views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House, the Talisker Blood Skye Cocktail was served, a refreshing and fruity mix of the new Talisker Skye, blood orange juice, sweet vermouth and Aperol. The drink was a delicious palate primer delivering a hint of smoke and a taste of what was to come.

Cold platters of cheese, prosciutto and salami truffles were served before Brand Ambassador, Sean Baxter‘s presentation transported everyone to the Isle of Skye for the beginning the Talisker Journey.

Staring with the latest member of the family, he introduced Talisker Skye, a no age statement single malt matured in refill and toasted American oak casks, with a slightly higher proportion of toasted casks, and a small proportion of bourbon casks. Sweet and smoky with maritime character, the whisky makes a good introduction to the range and is well suited to cocktails. Our review of Talisker Skye is available here.

The iconic Talisker 10 Year Old followed, matured in both refill and toasted American oak casks delivering a bolder flavour profile. Talisker Storm is matured in refill and toasted American oak casks and has the highest proportion of toasted casks specifically selected for their spiciness. The result is a whisky with intensity that retains its maritime style. Talisker Port Ruighe is double matured in port casks and the result is a sweeter style of dram that loses some of the maritime and smoky intensity in favour of sweet berry notes.

After returning to dock, a light seafood lunch was served at Bungalow 8 before the tasting continued with Talisker Dark Storm, a travel retail expression which we reviewed earlier in the year and one well worth purchasing on your next trip.

Talisker Skye was launched on Thursday 9 July 2015 and is available nationwide at RRP $85.99 AUD.
