Sesión Tequila launched last night at a chic beach style soiree held in a private mansion in Sydney’s Point Piper.
Owned by husband and wife team, Jennifer Hawkins and Jake Wall, Sesión means session, and the name was chosen to denote the tequila’s sessionability and to encourage the enjoyment of the agave spirit as part of a social occasion instead of shooting it straight.
Sesión is made from 100% blue weber agave and sourced from Tierra de Agaves, a small batch distiller located on the outskirts of Tequila Village in Jalisco. The distillery is owned and operated by the Beckmann family who are descents of Jose Cuervo who founded the first Tequila distillery in 1758. They bring over eight generations of agave farming and distilling experience.
Sesión Tequila comes in Blanco, Reposado and Mocha. Sesión Blanco (40% ABV) has faint aromas of agave which quickly disperse in the glass, along with hints of citrus and some pepper. The palate is smooth with predominant agave notes, along with green pineapple and vanilla. The finish is rather short and the mouthfeel is a little thin which makes it more suitable for cocktails and mixed drinks instead of sipping neat.
Sesión Reposado Tequila (40% ABV) brings sweet agave aromas with sweet vanilla, pineapple, butterscotch and a hint of oak which fades quickly on the palate. Sesión Mocha (35% ABV) Tequila was not available to taste.
Throughout the evening, four elegant cocktails created by Luke Ashton and Charlie Aynsbury of This Must Be The Place were served to guests.
Sesion Spritz was a light and refreshing mix of Sesión Blanco, cucumber wine, lemon myrtle and coconut water. Sesión Ginger Margarita added a hint of spice with lime, agave and ginger. Sesión Reposado and Port Old Fashion highlighted the sweeter notes of Sesión Reposado with club port, chipotle and mole bitters while Sesión Paloma was fresh and fruity with Sesión Blanco, grapefruit, soda and lime.
Sesión Tequila is distributed exclusively by Mextrade and is available in Australia at a RRP of $90.
