From the owners of One Penny Red in Summer Hill comes Vernon’s Bar, an upstairs addition to the renowned restaurant.
Located in a heritage building that was once a village post office, the venue offers indoor and outdoor seating for 60 persons, including a private dining room complete with a floor-to-ceiling wine rack. The fitout is sleek and contemporary with leather banquettes and mood lighting throughout.
Chef RJ’s (formerly of Longrain) brings a bar food menu of seasonal dishes such as hiramasa kingfish crudos with ruby grapefruit, cucumber and horseradish; the must-have chestnut, Jerusalem artichoke and Portobello pie with sauce soubise; and the popular Vernon’s fried chicken wing dings with miniature sauce.
The drinks menu features twists on classic cocktails such as the Willy Chapman, a blend of sloe gin, apricot and Prosecco; and the Shiso Sour with Nikka whisky, shiso leaf and absinthe. Easy drinking libations include the Basil Gimlet with vodka, basil and elderflower. The blackboard menu lists spirits and wines including several Australian gins which will be on rotation. Every gin and tonic comes with its own garnish to highlight the flavour profile of the gin.

Another highlight of the bar is a balcony where you can enjoy a drink as the sun goes down. In short, Vernon’s Bar is just the type of welcoming neighbourhood bar that you’d want in your own neighbourhood.
