Fratelli Fresh has welcomed a new addition to its ever growing family in Westfield Sydney.
Fratelli Fresh Westfield Sydney
With its ethos of bringing authentic Italian food to the table, Fratelli Fresh continues this in the heart of the city – simple, traditional dishes to be shared with friends at the end of the day.
While Fratelli Fresh maybe in one of Sydney’ major retail destinations, once inside you lose that hustle and bustle of shopping. Walk past the barristas serving coffee at the front and you will find an alleyway style mirrored trattoria with marble tables. Taking a step further around, you will come into the main dining room with its warm timbers and large arched windows overlooking Pitt St Mall. The long open kitchen and bar are opposite each other with high tables between them to take a seat while you take in aperitivo. There is even a private dining room.
Private Dining Room
With its red neon lighting and red wallpaper, the Private Dining Room bathes the diners and their dishes in a warm red glow.
Here we look at the traditional Italian fare as presented during the Spring Menu Dinner.
Focaccia
The Focaccia ($6.5) is a thin crisp sourdough with olive oil, Italian herbs and salt to accompany Antipasti dishes.
Zucchini Flowers
Zucchini Flowers ($5 each) are always a treat and these are stuffed with five Italian Cheeses. The zucchini stems are firm and the blend of cheeses is super tasty and runny inside the flower.
Salumeria Selection
The Salumeria ($22.50 – 2 persons) is a selection from Salumi Australia Artisanal Cured Meats Byron Bay with the likes of well prepared Prosciutto cotto, an aged Prosciutto Parma of 18 months, a Nduja packing plenty of heat, Finocchiona sopressa and Salame inferno. This great selection is accompanied by charred bread and pickled onion served on a wooden board to pick over while deciding your dishes.
Parma Fresh Figs with Stracciatella di Bufala
Parma ($21) with Fresh Figs with Stracciatella di Bufala brings together the sweetness of the prosciutto with the freshness of the fig and the creaminess of the fresh cheese.
Bitter Green Shaved Vegetables
This salad of Bitter Green Shaved Vegetables ($17.50) with Red Wine and Anchovy Vinaigrette is refreshing and a great palate cleanser as you move on from the antipasti courses.
Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli
This simple dish of Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli ($19) with tomato passata, basil and extra virgin olive oil is full of flavour brought together in well cooked ravioli that is most satisfying.
Chilli and Lobster Paccheri
The most anticipated dish, the Chilli and Lobster Paccheri ($32) with tomato and extra virgin olive oil was underwhelming. The pasta needed more cooking time to get to that sweet al dente texture, the tomato sauce was a little acidic drowning out the flavour from the lobster and the heat from the chilli was barely discernible.
Black Cod al Cartoccio
Despite the disappointment of the previous dish, the Black Cod al Cartoccio ($28), cooked in paper with artichoke, lemon, olives and white wine is perfectly cooked with aromas and flavours bursting out of the paper bag. This dish delivers full justice to this wonderful fish.
Zeppole
The Zeppole are light and deep fried Italian doughnuts coated in cinnamon with a bowl of warm chocolate to dip them in.
Tiramisu
This classic Tiramisu is given a novel serve as it is presented in cappuccino mug. What better way to finish and serve this decadent coffee dessert.
Fratteli Fresh Westfield brings together those Italian dishes that, while simple and fresh, make for an evening to feel at home be it with family or friends. The design is great, the staff friendly and again, you soon forget you are in this multi level retail giant.
Fratelli Fresh is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the bar has Aperitivo hour from 3-6pm everyday that includes their own Italian style beers.
