Mrs Sippy Double Bay Launches New Summer Menu

Mrs Sippy in Double Bay has launched a new summer menu by new Executive Chef Andreanne Pelletier.

Mrs Sippy Double Bay

Hailing originally from Canada, her cuisine is inspired by some some Asian influences, the nose to tail approach, eating locally and a Middle-Eastern flavour from her involvement with Cook for Syria initiative.

Mrs Sippy is located along Bay St, directly opposite Pelicano and in the vicinity of Niji Double Bay. It looks like a cafe from the outside with outdoor seating but the venue has a dining area and a bright and inviting bar to sip on your favourite beverage.

The food menu Mrs Sippy is divided into Antipasti, Boards, Salads, Wood Oven & Chargrill, Pizzas, Sides and Desserts and designed to be shared.

Mrs Sippy Double Bay
Freshly Shucked Oysters

Start with Freshly Shucked Oysters, ($4 each) bathed in a zingy dressing of citrus mignonette, kaffir lime and shiso.

Mrs Sippy Double Bay
Citrus Cured Kingfish Carpaccio

The Citrus Cured Kingfish Carpaccio ($18) gets a Middle-Eastern flavour with a dusting of sumac, pomegranate arils while the grapefruit adds acidity and a hint of sweetness. Pair it with a 2015 Hollys Garden Pinot Gris from Victoria.

Mrs Sippy Double Bay
Spiced Pork Belly

The Spiced Pork Belly ($18) on betel leaves are tasty morsels just waiting to be picked up. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, the accompanying pickled daikon and red chili add texture and heat respectively. Pair it with 2015 Le St Andre Rosé from Cotes de Provence.

Mrs Sippy Double Bay
Chargrilled Whole Baby Snapper

From the mains, the Chargrilled Whole Baby Snapper (market price) is beautifully cooked, with moist and flavoursome flesh but the mango relish with curry leaves and lime overpowers the delicate flavour of the fish.

Mrs Sippy Double Bay
Wood-Roasted Whole Chicken

The Wood-Roasted Whole Chicken ($40/$25 for half) is not to be missed. Tender and succulent with a hint of smoke, the chicken pieces come with walnuts, chilli, mint and a delightful tarator sauce.

Mrs Sippy Double Bay
Slow Roasted Lamb Shoulder

The standout dish is the Slow Roasted Lamb Shoulder ($60 whole / $30 half), with the tender meat falling off the bone and melting in the mouth with flavour. The lamb is served with white beans, cavalo nero, dukkah. Pair it with 2015 Mac Forbes Pinot Noir from the Yarra Valley.

Mrs Sippy Double Bay
Roasted Cauliflower

From the side dishes, the Roasted Cauliflower ($12) comes with a creamy tahini sauce and a light dusting of sumac.

Mrs Sippy Double Bay
Green Bean Salad

Alternatively, opt for the palate cleansing and squeaky Green Bean Salad ($20) with garden peas, grapefruit and radicchio adding a hint of welcome bitterness.

Mrs Sippy Double Bay
Strawberry and Rose Water Ice Cream Sandwich

Dessert offers two options. The generously portioned Strawberry and Rose Water Ice Cream Sandwich ($16) is a little too icy on the palate and doesn’t quite come together with the rose water being a little overpowering.

Mrs Sippy Double Bay
Chocolate Fondant

Surrounded by a pool of salted toffee and macadamias, the Chocolate Fondant ($14) is oozes with delicious dark chocolate. It’s rich and decadent, a dessert well worth ordering to cap off the meal.
