Whisky Show Sydney 2017

The Whisky Show by World of Whisky in Double Bay returned to the Stamford Hotel in Mascot last weekend. Running over two consecutive days, the event coincided with World Whisky Day on Saturday 20 May 2017.

Whisky Show Sydney 2017

There was a big turnout on both Saturday sessions with a good vibe all round. The show was also a chance to catch up with regular whisky aficionados and make new friends.

Launching at the show was A.D. Laws with their bourbon and rye whiskey range from Colorado. Peyton Mason from Laws Whiskey House presented a masterclass showcasing the various expressions. Fans of bourbons should keep an eye out on the range, particularly the rye whiskey made from 95% rye.

The most eye catching stand was that of Diageo, teasing with the newly-released John Walker & Sons Private Collection 2017 Edition which naturally, was not on taste but was made up for by tasting the Johnnie Walker Blue perfect serve.

Uber Bartools set up a cocktail station outside the main show room. They showcased their barware and prepared popular whisky cocktails such as the Old Fashioned, Mint Julep and Whisky Sour using a choice of whisk(e)y and bourbon.

We’re keeping it short and to the point with some of the highlights and standouts of the show in no particular order:

  • Macallan 12 yo Double Cask
  • Ailsa Bay 48.8%, a new single malt by William Grant & Sons, not yet released in Australia
  • Kilchoman Loch Gorm 46% ABV ex sherry cask, very limited availability
  • The entire range from A.D. Laws, particularly the rye expressions
  • Ledaig  2005 10 yo from Signatory Vintage
  • The Dubliner Irish Whiskey Bourbon Aged Cask
  • Hudson Manhattan Rye, an old time favourite
  • New World Projects Ginger Beer Cask #3 48% ABV
  • The Arran Malt 18 yo
  • Tullamore Dew Old Bonded Warehouse Release
  • Ballechin 10 yo from The Whiskey Company
