The Grounds of the City has opened their coffeehouse-inspired inner-city hub, set to transport you back to an era of old-school charm in Sydney’s CBD.
The new venue by the owners of The Grounds of Alexandria draws inspiration from traditional coffeehouse culture, complete with The Barista’s Bar fitted with state-of-the-art espresso and filter technology highlighting The Grounds house-roasted coffee and Roastery.
Led by Group Executive Chef, Paul McGrath, the open-style kitchen is on view serving breakfast (7am-11:30am) and all-day menus (11:30am onwards) with both dine-in and takeaway offerings.
The breakfast menu includes Steak & Eggs – seared grain fed fillet steak with mushrooms, onions, spinach, fried egg and chimichurri and The Bakery Basket – The Grounds continental selection with house made preserves, cultured butter and whipped mascarpone.
Lunch features Chirashi Style Salad - brown rice, seaweed, baby cos, avocado, cucumber, coriander, lime and sesame with a choice of poached chicken, tuna tartare or seared beef, Pumpkin Tart with buffalo curd, roasted onion and thyme and the Seafood Platter - The Grounds selection of the day with condiments and breads.
The Grounds of the City introduces coffee sommeliers ready to guide guests through tailored experiences, whilst the Tea Lady roams the venue with her custom-made trolley adorned with tea, cakes and pastries. In a nod to times past, shoeshiners are on hand to tend to those awaiting their morning caffeine hit.
Trading from dawn to dusk 7 days per week, The Grounds of the City offers breakfast and lunch daily with late trading on Thursday evenings, and late opening hours on Fridays and Saturdays coming soon.
Adding a touch of theatrics, an interactive window display has been designed to capture the attention of those passing by George St.
