Campari has released the first two whiskeys in the Whiskey Barons Collection, Bond & Lillard and Old Ripy bourbon.
Much like The Lost Distillery Company, The Whiskey Barons Collection is a new limited edition series of whiskeys created to resurrect old brands that have long disappeared.
The spirits were distilled at the Wild Turkey Distillery and while Master Distillers Jimmy and Eddie Russell were not involved in the creation of these expressions, their research team was devoted to the task of recreating style of whiskey that are now defunct.
Whiskey Barons Collection
Bond & Lillard Bourbon
Bond & Lillard is a 7 YO expression bottled at 50% ABV that’s charcoal filtered, a process which transforms the flavours aromas into floral and fruity esters yielding a more delicate and overall fruity flavour. On the nose, it’s creamy vanilla with citrus undertones and stone fruit while the palate is fruit-driven with hints of peach and apricots along with warm spice and soft tannins. The finish is long and dry with lingering fruit and spice notes.
Old Ripy Bourbon
Old Ripy is a blend of 8 YO and 12 YO Kentucky straight bourbon bottled at 52% ABV. The whiskey is non-chill filtered, retaining fats and congeners, which give the spirit an oily mouthfeel. The nose is rich with aromas of oak and vanilla while the palate is rich and creamy with toffee and oak notes. It finishes a little dry and chewy with toasted oak, lingering spice and caramel.
Bond & Lillard and Old Ripy of the Whisky Barons Collection is available in very limited quantities at RRP $70 AUD for 375ml bottles as well as in select bars such as Earl’s Juke Joint in Newtown.
