The range has launched with a short-film series, that tell the story of George’s life-less-ordinary based on his original 1834 diary.

George Wyndham is a man who was born into aristocracy, but not made for it and sailed to Australia to create a new life with his wife, some livestock and a few precious vines to become a pioneer of the Australian wine industry. He was one of the first to plant vines in the country.

The wines pay tribute to the life and exciting chapters of George and his story, and express distinctive characteristics that are reflective of his leading virtue displayed through these times of his life with the aim to bring something different to the conventionally traditional red wine sector.

I AM GEORGE worked with Cannes Lions award-winning filmmakers Brilliant Films and creative agency Society Social to share the stories of George and the depth and drive of his human spirit, in an artistic, and thought-provoking way. Each film explores George’s connection to classical elements within life and nature: the water that he crossed, the earth that he tamed, the fire in his heart and the air in the height of his nobility and poetic essence. The short films can be viewed here.

I AM GEORGE has two ranges – the core range of bold and robust wines, including a Cabernet Merlot, Shiraz and Shiraz Cabernet and ‘The Chronicles’ range – three wines that pay homage to specific chapters of George’s life.

Below is a summary of the tasting notes by Simon Clark, Global PR Manager Australian Brands, Pernod Ricard Winemakers:

I AM GEORGE Cabernet Merlot 2015 (Limestone Coast) is a balanced blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot showcasing all the varietal characteristics of the Limestone Coast region; medium bodied but with bold flavours. Deep red with purple hues and an aroma of blackberry, mulberry and spice lead to a palate of red fruits and cedar enhanced by fine powdery tannins.

Recommended food match: Rich homemade lasagne or roasted lamb saddle.

I AM GEORGE Shiraz Cabernet 2012 (Limestone Coast) is a blend of 73% Shiraz and 27% Cabernet Sauvignon. Vibrant crimson in colour with purple hues, it has aromas of fragrant dark berries and lifted spice, layered with leaf and choc mint combined with mocha cedar oak. The palate offers dense plum and blackberry balanced with nutty toasted oak with a softly rounded mid palate finishing with stylish structural tannins.

Recommended food match: red meat and game dishes.

I AM GEORGE Shiraz 2014 has deep purple and vibrant with a bouquet of intense red fruits and licorice, underpinned by dried herbs. A palate of ripe plum, chocolate mint and cedar flavours are enhanced by fine powdery tannins.

Recommended food match: Oven roasted beef fillet with salsa verde.

I AM GEORGE core range is available in a 750ml bottle at an RRP of $19.99. I AM GEORGE The Chronicles, which includes George The Unbound (Barossa Padthaway Shiraz), George The Fixer (McLaren Vale Shiraz and Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon) and George The Wizard (Barossa Shiraz and Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon) retail at $24.99 in select liquor outlets.
