P&V Wine and Liquor Opens in Newtown

P&V Wine and Liquor is opening in Newtown this week.

P&V Wine and Liquor
L-R: Kenny Graham, Lou Dowling, Jake Smyth and Mike Bennie

P&V is the venture by Mary’s original Lou Dowling and renowned wine and drinks expert, journalist and presenter Mike Bennie who have joined forces with Jake Smyth and Kenny Graham (co-founders of Mary’s, The Lansdowne and The Unicorn Hotel) to bring P&V Wine and Liquor. Part bottle-o, part booze-community incubator, the venue comes from their shared dedication to local and natural wine
and small batch beer and spirits and supporting local businesses.

Their vision is to support local winemakers, brewers and distillers with a retail business and tasting, events, and education space upstairs at the “Mike Bennie Centre for Good Wine”where he will host educational classes and one-off tasting nights. The space is also open to winemakers to use for their own meetings and events, as a resource or community space.

The team scoured local producers to source the best of locally produced natural wines, beer, cider and spirits with an emphasis on affordability. Out front a mini ‘market’ set up will cater to all your DIY cocktail needs – including fresh citrus from Reibey Farm on the Colo River, fresh herbs, cucumbers and packed fresh Hoshizaki ice bags.

All the wines will be divided into unconventional categories rather the traditional varietal. Spirits and beer will focus on small producers with a good support of local brews, but also some old favourites.

The P&V team are working with local brewers and distillers to make cocktails, beers and spirits distilled especially for the store. The team will be collaborating with local watering holes, such as Earls Juke Joint, Mary’s, and Bloodwood to create cocktails including a pre-batch Negroni, and Margaritas by the litre. Cocktails, beers and spirits are all available to take home in refillable bottles, or you can buy your own
2L Growler with a refund off your next purchase.

A mix of Ready to Cook and Microwaveable and Boil in Bag style TV Dinners will also be available through P&V for the next ‘Netflix and Roast’ session. Select from roast chook with herb butter, lemon brined spatchcock, BBQ packs and black lentil dahl.

P&V Wine & Liquor opens officially this weekend.
