The World Class Australian Finals 2018 were announced on Tuesday 24 April at Charlie Parker’s in Sydney with Orlando Marzo of Lume Restaurant in Melbourne crowned the winner.
The competition finals were held over two consecutive days where 20 finalists competed in a series of challenges. Each challenge of the World Class Australian Finals 2018 was hosted and judged by an expert. The ‘The 10 Year Challenge’ was hosted by Michael Madrusan of Milk & Honey and founder of The Everleigh; ‘Think Global, Go Local Challenge’ was hosted by Danielle Alvarez, executive chef of Fred’s; ‘The Today Show Challenge’ was hosted by television and radio presenter Fenella Kernebone, and ‘The Speed Round’ was hosted by Kaitlyn Stewart, World Class Global Bartender of the Year 2017.
Orlando Marzo joins previous winners Andrea Gualdi (2017), Charlie Ainsbury (2014 and 2016), Jack Sotti (2015) and Luke Ashton (2013). He wins an all-expenses paid trip to Berlin to represent Australia in the Diageo World Class Global Finals in October 2018. The prize will also take him on a cocktail tour of Europe to visit some of the world’s greatest bars and visit Diageo distilleries, including the home of Johnnie Walker in Scotland and ‘chez CÎROC’ in the south of France.
