Verandah Bar Reopens in Martin Place Sydney

A brand-new Verandah Bar in Sydney’s Martin Place was unveiled last week by owners of emerging hospitality group Tilley and Wills (Greenwood Hotel, Verandah Bar, Social at Verandah).

Following a three-month closure, the opening marks the second and final stage in the extensive redevelopment of the establishment which saw neighbouring restaurant Social at Verandah open its doors to patrons only a few weeks earlier.

Continuing the urban oasis theme that Social at Verandah has firmly cemented, Verandah Bar stands above Castlereagh Street with the bar’s signature open balcony remaining its defining feature. Designers Luchetti Krelle wanted to soften the blank space with elements such as custom wallpaper and light fittings, distressed hand painted murals, curved banquettes, hanging planters and abundant greenery designed by Loose Leaf and The Plant Room.

A 14-metre curved timber bar now welcomes guests on entry. An eclectic mix of furniture has also been used to separate the space into various zones. Plush velvet banquettes and lounges create intimate settings while large timber tables and stools surround the bar.

Cameron Pascoe’s newly designed drinks list is designed to be enjoyed while unwinding after a long work day. He has kept the list simple with margaritas, mojitos, dark and stormy, and pitchers of white peach sangria, Aperol spritz and Pimm’s for groups.

The food menu has also been refined, with nods to the Australian-British style menu at neighbouring restaurant Social at Verandah. Executive Chef Brad Sloane, (ex The Balmain Hotel, Swanson Hotel) Australian Hotels Association NSW Chef of the Year for 2013 serves up traditional pub classics such as chicken schnitzel, burgers and steaks, complemented by a selection of healthy poke, chicken and tofu bowls, Braised Beef cheek orecchiette, flatbreads and more.

Verandah Bar and Social at Verandah has eight versatile event spaces available for events and bookings, with a capacity up to 700 pax and is taking bookings for end of financial year and more.
