Metro St James, Sydney

Tucked behind Sydney’s St James station, you’ll find Metro St James, a quaint café that plays on the romance of the Paris métro.

Housed in a heritage-listed sandstone building, the bistro has a pleasant leafy outlook and overlooks the chess corner of Hyde Park. The cafe-bistro is a venture from the team behind La Brasserie in Crown Street with Philippe Valet and chef David Bransgrove.

A combination of alfresco and indoor dining make this casual eatery a hub for the ebb and flow of locals, city workers and tourists. Here, French accents are thick and the bistro fare serves a breakfast and lunch menu as well as bar snacks.

The Café Lunch menu kicks off at noon and carries the theme with giant toasted sandwiches, including the Reuben ($17) with a not so generous filling of Wagyu corned beef, caraway sauerkraut, Swiss Gruyere, Russian dressing & dill pickle on sourdough.
