SoCal, the new venture from Hamish Watts and Ben Carroll of Bondi Hardware and The Botanist launched last night in Neutral Bay.

Located along Young Street just off Military Road, the first floor venue is resplendent with bright furnishings, a casual bar, and an outdoor terrace that invites summer sipping. Designed by Luchetti Krelle whose work includes Ananas and Hinky Dinks, the new bar and restaurant has a capacity for 100 seated diners and an additional 50 on the terrace.

The food and drink offerings take inspiration from Mexican, North American and seafood influences with dishes such as tacos, mini dogs and ceviche. You’ll find Morcilla with Crushed Peas and Fried Egg ($19), Chilli Dogs with cheese, mustard and ketchup ($20) and Pulled Pork Quesadilla with black bean, rosemary and grilled eggplant. Sides include BBQ Corn on the cob with paprika, manchego and salsas ($12) and Tater Tots with chipotle mayo ($8).

Drinks from the Vineyard have a Californian slant. Beer includes the likes of Pacifico, Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR) and local brews. There are also some 12-strong tequila brands on offer.

SoCal  has a cool, chilled vibe that transports you to a world away from the hubbub of Military Road. Drop in for a drink or two, enjoy nibbles with friends. With a 2 am license, you can be sure to party in Sydney, SoCal style.
