The Botanist, Kirribilli

The Botanist in Kirribilli, a small bar just across the Sydney Harbour Bridge celebrated its first birthday this week. The popular venue is part of the successful Sydney restaurants group Applejack Hospitality, with owners Hamish Watts & Ben Carroll of Bondi Hardware and the newly-opened SoCal in Neutral Bay.

The restaurant’s name references the Botanist Gerard Fothergill, who travelled the world researching plants and whose last years of his life were spent running a small bookshop in the very building The Botanist now occupies.

Barrington-Boutique & Fothergill-Punch

Tucked away on the corner of two streets, guests were ushered down through the smaller entrance with several steps down to the underground bar and dining area. Rustic high tables and chairs, long seats with cushions, candles, dimly-lit interior and music contributed to the good vibe.

Champagne, wine, beer and a choice of two tasty cocktails were served all night. The Barrington Boutique was made with Ketel One vodka, lime juice, raspberry jam sugar syrup, cranberry juice and a dash of rhubarb bitter and the Fothergill Punch had Pampero Especial, lime juice, orgeat, pineapple juice and a dash of cherry bitters.
