Colorova Pâtisserie, Paris

Located in chic 6ème arrondissement, Colorova is a pâtisserie that serves brunch of an unconventional type.

You won’t find bacon and eggs or Bloody Mary’s on offer. Colorova means multi-coloured in Polish and inside the quasi retro chic venue, white walls provide a canvas for photoshopped colours of paintings, patterns and woven furniture. A modest selection of pastries is on show beneath vertical windows that give a peek into the large working kitchen.

I am brunching with Forest of 52 Martinis, whom I had first met in person the day before at Le Mary Celeste bar. Arriving without a reservation, we are fortunate to find a table. Within minutes of being seated, the venue is running at full capacity.

The formule brunch at 28 euros combines elements of French breakfast with a light approach to lunch. An optional glass of wine costs 6 euros. Surprisingly, it doesn’t include a pastry unless you opt for the 35 euro formule.

Brunch begins with orange juice, viennoiseries and bread such as flaky croissants, pain au chocolat with a selection of jams, honey and salted caramel butter. A compote of mango and whipped cream follows, light, fruity and not overly sweet.

Glacé de petits pois, fenouil et feta consists of a cool and refreshing pea soup with fennel and feta cheese. The flavour could be improved with a touch of citrus or chilli for a bite. Crème de celeri, lieu noir vapeur is a delicious combination of creamed celeriac with steamed fish fillet, a type of pollock. Tea or coffee complete the experience.

Colorova puts a colourful start to your Parisian sejour. Brunch is a step out of the ordinary petit dejeuner complet you find in Paris with the combination of sweet and savoury dishes.  The ambience is relaxed, the clientele is young, hip and laid back, in as much as Paris can be décontracté. Service can be a little slow so allow a little time during your stay. Remember to pick up a pastry on your way out.

If you’re brunching on a Sunday, make sure you take a look at Marché Raspail just behind the métro station.

  1. Something else I was thinking was a little different from the usual Paris brunch is that there weren’t really many tables & they’re kind of spread out if I remember correctly (will have to get back in for a bit more brunch as I haven’t made it back since our visit there!)
