The Glenlivet Winchester Collection 50 year old
Named after Alan Winchester, Master Distiller of The Glenlivet, The Glenlivet Winchester Collection Vintage 1964 is the first release from the exclusive collection. Captain Bill Smith Grant, the last descendant of The Glenlivet’s founder, George Smith laid down a specially selected cask in 1964 which has since been ageing in a single ex bourbon hogshead cask made of American Oak
The Glenlivet Winchester Collection 50 year old
The decanter style bottle is designed by Scottish glass artists Nichola Burns and Brodie Nairn (GLASSTORM) and the jewel-like stopper was designed by silversmith Richard Fox. The design combines precious materials such as rose gold, and is crowned with a ‘Cairngorm Stone’, often known as “The Whisky Stone” as a result of its unique colouring. The bottle is housed in a bespoke cabinet by award-winning furniture maker, John Galvin.
The Glenlivet Winchester Collection Vintage 1964 expression was bottled on 17th June 2014 at cask strength of 42.3% ABV with only 100 bottles released globally.
Laura Hay – The Glenlivet Ambassador
A rare tasting of The Glenlivet Winchester Collection 1964 was led by Laura Hay. In the glass, the whisky exhibits a rich golden hue and has a rich aroma of orchard fruit, pears with oak sweetness followed by sweet raisin notes. The palate is vibrant with luscious ripe orchard fruit, creamy toffee, a hint of spice, white pepper and heathered honey. The finish is smooth and luxurious and like most older whiskies, does not linger too long on the palate. Overall, a luxurious dram which displays characteristics of long ageing yet retains The Glenlivet character.
The Glenlivet Winchester Collection 1964 is available exclusively at Dan Murphy’s in Double Bay from 21st October and is priced at AUD $25,000.

To celebrate the launch, Chef Romeo Baudouin of Victor Churchill prepared a five course degustation paired to five of The Glenlivet’s single malt whiskies.
Dice of Foie Gras with Quince Paste and Ginger Bread
Guests mingled over Perrier-Jouet belle Epoque Rosé 2004 and delectable Dice of Foie Gras with Quince Paste and Ginger Bread before sitting down to an exquisite dinner, where each whisky and food pairing was introduced by Laura Hay and Romeo Baudoiun.
Spring Pea and Jamon Iberico Soup
The first course was a vibrant Spring Pea and Jamon Iberico Soup paired with The Glenlivet 12 year old. The whisky is matured in ex American oak hogsheads which impart sweet vanilla and orchard fruit flavours that make the flagship dram light and easy drinking.
Poached Marron, Mango and Basil Salad with Wasabi Cream
Poached Marron, Mango and Basil Salad with Wasabi Cream followed, an elegant dish with a mix of flavours paired with The Glenlivet 15 year old matured in French oak. With more pronounced oak while retaining the fruity character with vanilla sweetness and some spice, this expression played on the sweet notes of the mango and oaky character paired well with the marron and wasabi.
Seared Venison Loin
At 54.8% ABV, The Glenlivet Nadurra 16 year old is non-chill filtered and displays oiliness and viscosity on the glass. Full bodied, with a creamy mouthfeel and bold fruit flavours, the whisky paired well with the Seared Venison Loin which had been wrapped in a cloth with whisky to impart a little sweetness. Tender and succulent, the venison was wrapped in pancetta and accompanied by a sweet potato puree, butter glazed asparagus, broad beans, cherry compote and veal jus.
Valrhona Dark Chocolate Souffle with Berry Salad
The Glenlivet 18 year old is matured in American oak and Spanish Olorosso casks which give it a Christmas cake character with dry spice, cinnamon, clove, vanilla and creme brulee. Naturally, it paired perfectly with the irresistible Valrhona Dark Chocolate Souffle with Berry Salad.
Cheese, Spiced Pears, Lavosh and Bread
To finish, The Glenlivet 21 year old matured in both American and Spanish oak was paired with Osso Irate sheep’s milk cheese and Cropwell Bishop Stilton served with spiced pears and bread.
