Imagine a luxury tropical island paradise, an adults-only resort with 35 beachside bures and 10 overwater bungalows, that’s a maximum of 90 guests seeking escape from the daily grind and the bustle of city living. And the the one thing you want to do is… nothing.

Likuliku Lagoon Resort is located on Malolo Island in Fiji, an easy bus ride and leisurely cruise away from Nadi airport. It’s a place to soak up Fiji’s natural beauty and rediscover the blissful art of doing nothing.

Likuliku means “calm waters” and you’re welcomed at the islet beach bar by the soothing sounds of local song. There, with sand in your toes and a refreshing non-alcoholic tea punch in hand, you leave your other life behind.

“Bula! Welcome home” is how the staff greet you, and over the next few days, your are home.

With the lagoon at your doorstep, a large plant nursery in the back, exquisite a la carte dining with three course meals, as well as an amuse bouche and palate cleanser, two bars, your own private day bed, a private outdoor shower, infinity pool, and more – this is the luxe you’d expect.

Sunbathe by the infinity pool, enjoy a poolside drink and fresh fruit, laze in your own private daybed and by private we mean totally private with its own shutters, swim with the tropical fish in the calm turquoise waters, sunbathe in your own sun beds facing the ocean, or simply do nothing while never getting bored.

The 35 bures that line up the lagoon are classified as either Deluxe Beachfront or Beachfront, the only difference being a plunge pool.

Each bure features a personal daybed retreat, an outdoor shower with a secluded courtyard, a spacious deck, traditional Fijian interiors and serene lagoon views. Take a look at the photos below.

Fijiana Restaurant

Enjoy high end dining at Fijiana Restaurant overlooking the lagoon where the only sounds you hear are of the birds tweeting, the gentle breeze rustling the palm trees and the occasional lull of the calm water caressing the shore.

The restaurant is made up of four intimate areas that connect to create a distinctly Fijian atmosphere with stunning views from all areas not just the al fresco dining terrace.

The cuisine is international and we’ll have more in Dining at Likuliku in another article as well as the private dining for special occasions.

Cocktails beckon at Masima Bar situated on its own islet. This is the spot for intimate moments around the fire pit as the sun sets on another day in paradise.

As for us, we swapped our Friday Night Martini Ritual for the Sunset Martini Ritual, a daily sunset stroll along the empty beach, martini in hand, watching the everchanging colours of the sunset.

Dua Tale Bar is located in the central complex near Fijiana Restaurant. It’s the spot for pre or post dinner drinks and its indoor location provides reprieve from the elements.

The Lagoon

If there’s one thing Likuliku lacks, it’s a fine white sandy beach. The lagoon consists of a coral beach and wet shoes are essential packing. The tides are extreme and vary daily. When the tide is low, the waterline retracts way into the distance. During that time, swimming is recommended off the pier near the bar so as not to damage the coral below.

The infinity pool is always an option or if you are staying in a beachfront deluxe bure, you have your own plunge pool. You rarely see anyone swimming or lazing on the beach which means most of the time, you have it to yourself.

If you’re after a holiday in the sun, in a luxurious adults-only resort with pristine vistas and accommodation, a la carte dining for breakfast, lunch and dinner, soaking up the natural beauty and generally doing nothing, Likuliku is the place to go.

Every vista is postcard perfect and every day you fall in love with Fiji a little bit more. With the level of hospitality extended to you, nothing is ever a problem and you relax the moment you feel the welcome. This is the type of resort where everyone knows you by your first name and not your room number.

And when it comes time to leave, you may just find yourself making your best David Tennant Doctor Who impersonation with “I don’t want to go…”
