Sips & Bites is a new section featuring bite-sized information on new restaurants and bars including what’s on in Sydney. This new feature replaces the monthly “New Restaurant and Bars Openings” and is published on a regular basis.
Mjolner Whisky Bar & Carvery
The Speakeasy Group (Eau de Vie, The Roosevelt, EDV Melbourne, Boilermaker House) is opening another venue in Sydney. Mjolner, named after Thor’s hammer will be a carvery and whisky bar located at the site of an old tobacco factory.

Asia’s best cocktail bar, 28 Hong Kong St., is coming to Australia for a pop-up experience in Sydney during Bar Week followed by Melbourne where you can get a taste of their menu with cocktails, bar bites, and even their music playlist.
Try cocktails such as ‘Coppertone’ (pictured above), a tropical twist on an Old Fashioned, made with Plantation Original Dark Rum, Virgin Coconut Oil, Five Spice Pineapple, and Angostura Bitters. The ‘Prescription Julep’ is a punchy classic, featuring Plantation Jamaican Rum, Pierre Ferrand 1840 Cognac, mint, and Smith & Cross Jamaican Rum. A selection of the 28HKS food menu will also be available, offering classic American comfort food with top quality ingredients, and smart presentations designed for sharing.

Taste Orange @ Sydney
Taste Orange @ Sydney is back at Martin Place running on Thursday 22 and Friday 23 September from 11.30-2.30pm then 5pm to 8pm. Taste your way through 19 premium wineries, food and tourism stallholders and meet the wine growers and producers. This year, the event has partnered with The Stinking Bishop to showcase the region’s wine and produce with a stall featuring cheese boards and cured meats. Tasting packs are $40 + GST and include a branded wine glass and 10 tasting tokens and can be pre-purchased online here.
Whisky Flavour Behaviour Test
Does your personality determine what whisky flavours you prefer? Dr Adam Moore and The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) have of their ‘Flavour Behaviour Test’, a psychometric test which matches personality types to flavours of whisky. We gave it a try and the results were so far removed from our whisky preference! You can have a go here.
